West Orange High School Alumna Lands Dream Job with MLB/NHL
WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange High School Class of 2012 graduate and Class of 2016 Rutgers University graduate Molly Rich has been hired by the MLB/NHL Network in Seacaucus, NJ, as a Media Management Associate, and for her, this is a dream come true.
Rich's job entails content ingests for the networks, clipping shows for .com uploads, restoring files, and much more. The Media Management department supports the news desk, editors, and marketing departments, who cannot function without their assistance.
Rich grew up in West Orange, attending St. Cloud, Edison and Roosevelt. A lifelong sports fan, she attended the Write on Sports summer camps during middle school and learned the ins and outs of sports reporting.
"I knew from Write on Sports (and my love for the New York Yankees) that I wanted to do something in the sports journalism field if possible," said Rich.
"Not only did I stay in touch with the camp, I became an intern after my senior year of high school and worked there every summer through 2015 helping middle school students become sports reporters and broadcasters," she continued.
At West Orange High School, Rich studied journalism and was an integral part of the TV36/WOHS News team, working with Tynia Thomassie, Marty Kale, and Nik Marmo.
"They were all wonderful mentors for me in journalism and television production," noted Rich, "and I was the Sports Anchor for both my Junior and Senior years on WOHS News. That alone helped me build up confidence on and off-camera."
Rich also played Varsity softball and the team had a very successful 56-26 record from 2010-12 under Head Coach Jamie Galioto.
Rich attended Rutgers University and majored in Journalism and Media Studies, with minors in History and Film Studies. She worked at the Rutgers Television Network for 3 of her 4 years, and ended as the edit mentor in production where she trained new employees on the Adobe Premiere editing software. She also interned with the NJ Film Festival at Rutgers and was on the Club Softball team (Secretary and PR representative my senior year).
"This job has really been better than anything I could have imagined so early in my adult life thus far," concluded Rich, "and I'm looking forward to what the future holds."
