Physical and Health Education

Physical Education at the West Orange Public Schools is an integral part of the total educational process which contributes to the development of the individual through the natural medium of physical activity-human movement. The program is a carefully planned sequence of learning experiences designed to fulfill the growth, development, and behavioral needs of all students.

The purpose of the Comprehensive Health Curriculum is to increase student knowledge about the physical, social, emotional and intellectual dimensions of health and wellness. Students will be taught strategies that will allow them to make informed choices concerning health now and in the future.

Students will be able to:
  1. Learn and apply health promotion concepts and skills to support a healthy, active lifestyle.
  2. Use health-enhancing personal, interpersonal, and life skills to support a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Learn and apply information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and medicines to make decisions to support a healthy active lifestyle.
  4. Learn the physical, emotional, and social aspects of human relationships and sexuality and apply these concepts to support a healthy, active lifestyle.
